Terms of Use

Terms governing your use of Ubuntu Portal content and services.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using Ubuntu Portal (ubuntuportal.com), you agree to the following terms. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you should discontinue use of the site.

Nature of Content

All content published on Ubuntu Portal โ€” including documentation, guides, command examples, configuration snippets, and commentary โ€” is provided for informational and educational purposes only. It is not professional consulting, and it should not be treated as a substitute for qualified system administration advice in production or mission-critical environments.

While we make every effort to ensure accuracy, Linux distributions evolve continuously. A command that works correctly on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS may behave differently on an older release, a different kernel version, or a system with non-standard configurations. Always verify instructions against your specific environment before applying them.

User Responsibility

When you follow instructions from this site, you do so at your own risk. Specifically:

  • Back up your data. Before running commands that modify partitions, filesystems, bootloaders, kernel modules, or system configuration files, ensure you have current backups. We say this on many of our guides, and we mean it every time.
  • Test in non-production environments first. If you are managing servers or workstations that others depend on, validate procedures on a test system before applying them to production machines.
  • Read commands before executing them. We provide context and explanations alongside commands, but ultimately you are responsible for understanding what a command does before running it with elevated privileges. A mistyped dd command or an rm -rf pointed at the wrong directory can cause irreversible data loss in seconds.
  • Check version compatibility. Our content specifies Ubuntu versions where relevant, but if you are running a release we have not explicitly covered, verify that package names, file paths, and configuration syntax still apply.

No Warranty

Ubuntu Portal content is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that:

  • Content will be error-free or continuously up to date
  • Instructions will produce identical results on all hardware and software configurations
  • Following any guide will not cause unintended side effects on your specific system

We are not liable for any damage, data loss, system downtime, or other consequences arising from the use of information published on this site. This includes, but is not limited to, damage caused by commands, scripts, or configuration changes described in our content.
